How to detail your car like a pro!

used car

When your car is sparkling clean, you feel a million dollars! Lucky for you, detailing your car like a pro doesn’t have to cost a million dollars, if you do it yourself!

What you’ll need:

  • 1-2 buckets
  • A hose
  • Sponge
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Tyre shine
  • A vacuum

DIY detailing how-to guide

Get rid of all the rubbish

Starting with the inside of your car, throw out any rubbish and remove any miscellaneous items that don’t belong in your car (and boot!).  Tidy your glove box, door pockets, centre console and under the seats.

Vacuum

Once everything from the car has been removed (including floor mats) start by using your vacuum tools to clean the inside of your car. Vacuum your seats from top to bottom, and vacuum the dash, console and doors to remove any dust. Finally, vacuum the carpet and floor mats and put them back.

Wipe interior surfaces

Using a clean, damp cloth wipe all the none fabric surfaces inside the car.  Make sure to wipe cup holders and door handles.

Clean the inside of the windows

Using either a window cleaner, or water and white vinegar – use a lint free cloth to clean the inside of your windows and remove any grime. Be sure to use the cloth to wipe until the glass is dry so that you don’t have any smudges.

Now the inside is done, it’s time to make your car sparkle on the outside!

Lather up

Ensuring your car is parked on a suitable surface for water to drain, start lathering up the car with the soapy water and sponge. Start from the roof and work your way down paying extra attention to alloys, and other nooks and crannies, such as under wiper blades and number plates.

Rinse areas with clean water as you go for best results.

Once the whole car has been cleaned and rinsed, absorb any water with a dry microfibre cloth paying extra attention to windows.

Pay special attention to your tyres

If you use a commercial tyre shine product, your tyres will look as good as new and this will be the icing on the cake in making your car look like it’s been detailed by a pro!

So put the music on, turn up the volume and get down on detailing! There are lots of fancy detailing products you can purchase down the track with the money you’ll save on paying for the professionals to do it!
